One game I often play with my young clients is – ready set go! I say this phrase a lot during play. I eventually leave out the last word… Ready…set…. (pause)! When the child exclaims “go” I follow through with the activity. This can be done when pushing a child on the swing, playing with toy cars, throwing a ball, or activating wind-up toys. My new favorite is the parachute ride. The child sits on the parachute and I pull them along – stopping to say “ready set go!” every so often. It is a great way to help children learn a very functional first word – go!
